In ‘Sustainable Futures’, our year 10/11 students conduct a town meeting, taking on the role of either

  • a wildlife ranger,
  • a sugar cane farmer,
  • a fisherman,
  • a lawyer,
  • a university scientist,
  • a Green Army Volunteer,
  • a tourism operator,
  • a port developer,
  • a mining representative,
  • a reef guardian, or
  • a government minister.

We discuss, ask questions, and reach a consensus on an action plan, to improve the water quality and the resilience of the Great Barrier Reef. Each character uses data, statistics, maps, images, graphs, or tables to support the action plan from their perspective.

The skills our students gain from such an activity are invaluable!
