In Week 6, the year 12 Health Studies class visited the Paramedics Shed at Flinders University. They were guided through their Issues Investigation by Professor Hugh Grantham. He challenged students’ preconceived ideas about treating people without fear of favour, putting personal prejudices aside for the patient’s treatment, and treating patients ethically – no matter how hard that may be. In the medical field, being a great communicator and treating patients fairly is critical.
All students were challenged and had to think outside the box – which is just how we roll at the ASMS. This “real life” example made exposure to these issues more real and believable.
Thanks to Professor High Grantham and the staff at the Paramedics Shed for their time and expertise.
