The state election campaign is in full swing and Central Studies students at the ASMS are using the election as a backdrop for their development of statistical analysis tools. Students are utilising a variety of measures of central tendency and measures of spread to investigate the characteristics of a number of marginal electorates in the state. The demographic characteristics are then being viewed against past voter behaviour in order to try to identify voting patterns that will allow a valid prediction to be made about the 2018 State Election. Parents are encouraged to discuss with students what data the students may be focussing on in their investigation and the validity of the assumptions that are being made about voter behaviour.
