As I write this article over 50 students and staff are out on the oval running or walking to contribute to their team’s score for the 1500 metre event as part of our Activities Day which is held on Tuesday 13 February. What a great way to start their day!!

Our start to 2018 has been full of energy, enthusiasm and excitement. On our first day we celebrated the beginning of our year of extraordinary learning and were fortunate to have Aunty Suzanne welcome us to country with her special message of encouragement to be brave in our learning and feel confident to learn from our mistakes. We welcomed 140 new students and 5 new staff members to our school for 2018. During the first few weeks we are making sure we get to know each other with lots of opportunities for group work and support in understanding how our school works, our year 11 & 12 students are being great mentors! I look forward to getting to know our new students even better during the year and to meeting families at our Meet the Learning Studies Teacher evening coming up on Tuesday 20 February.

Our year 12 Seminar Day was again a great success, under the leadership of Lisa Pope teachers and students explored what lies ahead for this final year of secondary schooling and shared strategies for achieving goals of successful completion of their SACE. Speaking of completion of SACE we congratulate our 2017 graduates on their results. 100 students completed the SACE and obtained an ATAR, 98 students have been offered a place at a university through SATAC, 70 of them were offered their 1st preference! 4 of our students have been offered and accepted positions at interstate universities. We wish them all the very best in their future studies and know that as ASMS graduates they are well placed for success.

The ASMS has a strong focus on developing our student’s as confident self-directed learners and on the strengthening the capabilities which prepare them for their future worlds. During the year I will share examples of the amazing achievements and growth of our students in this publication, and of course you can see for yourselves as you continue to watch your child grow into a confident, happy young person.
