Our wonderful principal Jayne is currently on well-earned leave in Italy and we are all ‘holding the fort’ in her absence. We’re certainly looking forward to her stories when she returns!

In her absence, I am acting in Jayne’s role and it is my pleasure to provide the Principal’s Message for this info@asms. At the ASMS we pride ourselves on the working partnerships we have with parents to support every student to follow their passion, flourish in their learning and achieve their preferred post school pathway. As we begin term 2, it’s worth remembering that workloads intensify as we progress towards the end of semester 1. It’s likely that your child may have more than one task due during the same week, and may feel some stress because of this. Helping them manage their stress productively is an important life skill as they learn to prioritise and manage multiple demands. As adults who care for them, we can be tempted to step in and ‘rescue’ adolescents when they are struggling; when we do this we might risk them missing a valuable learning opportunity. As part of our Occasional Parent Information Sessions, we are pleased to invite you to a session on Wednesday 23 May where we will address some of the issues which you are facing as parents. I encourage you to read more about this in this edition of info@asms and to register for the event.

Our Open Nights will be held on Thursday 31 May and Tuesday 5 June. I’m sure that many of you remember your first visit to the ASMS; it is certainly a different environment to many schools. Our Open Nights are our opportunity to shine as our students, parents and teachers share the ASMS approach to teaching and learning with our visitors. This year we’re including displays from our 3Ds Expo with our Open Nights, which is an exciting innovation that allows our visitors to get a real sense of how our students demonstrate and provide evidence of our learning. If you can’t get here during the day for the Expo, feel free to drop in! Our feedback consistently shows that word of mouth is our most effective ‘advertising method’, so if you know of anyone who may be interested in finding out more about our school please mention our Open Nights to them or direct them to our website, where more information can be found.
