Did you know that culinary therapy is sometimes used to treat a variety of mental health conditions? Yes, scientific research shows that preparing food can be a mindful practice that reduces unpleasant thoughts and feelings! This week in the Body in Question Central Study, students who selected the ‘Psychological Health’ strand, had the opportunity to work in the Springbank Secondary College kitchens.
In a MasterChef like style, students were given a small selection of interesting ingredients and were challenged to create and present their unique dish in 40 minutes. A panel of “judges” tasted each culinary creation and they were astounded by our student’s talents! Students picked up new cooking skills as well as learning how to implement them to improve mental health. Creative thinking skills… tick. Social management… tick. Fun learning… tick. Well-being… tick.
