Last month, during National Science Week, astronaut and engineer, Dr Charles Camarda, visited the ASMS!

We were very fortunate to receive an engaging presentation and as well as have time for students to discuss their projects with Dr Camarda. Students were giving projects to work on surrounding the question that took NASA 3 years to answer; how to protect the next space shuttle after the Columbia Space Shuttle disintegrated on re-entry to Earth.

“By reaching out to the research communities to use the latest advances in analysis, testing, inspection, monitoring and fabrication, we gained a tremendous amount of insight into how to develop innovative concepts and use innovative solution strategies,” Charles Camarda says.

Student enthusiasm was palatable, with Dr Camarda needing to be pried away at the end of their visit in time to make their next appointment.
