The Australian Science & Mathematics School is a very different school. It is a public school for senior secondary students and, as its name suggests, has a special focus on science and mathematics. However, its points of difference intertwine to describe a unique and innovative school that is deeply engaged in re-shaping the schooling experience for its students and developing a refreshed science and mathematics educational program suitable for young people in the 21st century.

The ASMS has 3 key functions; its role as a school generating challenging learning, particularly in science and mathematics, its focus on developing curriculum and pedagogy at the leading edge of 21st century  science and technology and its role in supporting the professional learning of science and mathematics educators. The school’s partnership with Flinders University is of central importance to each function. It provides the opportunity for rich interaction between students, teachers, research scientists and education academics in their search for innovative and challenging teaching and learning in science and mathematics.

The ASMS student has an intense interest and passion for the areas of science and mathematics. The ASMS schooling experience is clearly focused on developing each student’s aptitude as a self-managing and self-directing learner. The learning environment at the school has been designed to facilitate high levels of interactivity and collaboration amongst students and teachers resulting in a strong sense of community within the school. Our students seek out challenge and take on the responsibility of developing their personal capabilities.

The Australian Science & Mathematics School is a rewarding, interesting and exciting place for its students and staff. The life of the school is enriched through many interactions with university academics, industry partners, visiting educators, international school partners and community groups, all generating thoughtful and valued ideas for the ongoing development of the school. The ASMS welcomes involvement and interest in its work.
