Students undertake all Central Studies across years 10 and 11 gaining a strong foundation in Science and Mathematics in readiness for year 12 studies. The approach is interdisciplinary, with emphasis on Science and Mathematics, while incorporating key learning from Humanities (English, including English as a Second Language, Society and Environment, Health, Multimeda) and the Arts (including Design and Technology).
The Central Studies are designed for students to develop:
deep understanding of fundamental concepts
content
skills and processes
values and attitudes
Each of the Central Studies is consistent with the requirements of the South Australian Certificate of Education (SACE) and the South Australian Curriculum, Standards and Accountability (SACSA) Framework, ensuring that students have the oppportunity to achieve the standards required of senior school students.
The curriculum enables students to prepare for their present and future lives as thoughtful, active, responsive and committed local, national and global citizens. The Central Studies provide opportunities for personal choice and in depth studies in the school, university, workplace and community.
Students doing year 11 in their first year at the ASMS will undertake six Central Studies in order to achieve SACE units that will provide a foundation for their year 12 (Stage 2) courses.
